Keeping people physically active where they live, work and play is the focus of the Med Center Health Sports Medicine program. When injuries occur, we have a comprehensive team to help ensure a fast recovery and safe return to prevent reinjury. Services such as medical care, sports physicals, athletic training and physical rehabilitation are provided by a team of fellowship trained physicians, physical therapists, certified athletic trainers and certified strength and conditioning specialists.

Med Center Health Sports Medicine provides comprehensive school and facility-based services for seven area high schools in Southcentral Kentucky. On-site practice and athletic event coverage is provided by our team of licensed athletic trainers and sports physical therapists. The program is directed by our three sports fellowship-trained physicians, Chaitu Malempati, DO, Philip Collis, MD and Abigail DeBusk, DO, who also serve as the team physicians for Western Kentucky University Athletics. Their advanced training and expertise provides the clinical oversite necessary to ensure best clinical practices by our staff and the athlete’s safe participation in their respective sport(s).

Med Center Health is a proud member of the Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention (STOP) Campaign. STOP educates athletes, parents, coaches and healthcare providers about the rapid increase in youth sports injuries, the necessary steps to help reverse the trend and the need to keep young athletes healthy. The program includes education on proper prevention techniques and the need for open communication between everyone involved in a young athlete’s life.
