If you are having a heart attack, stroke, or other life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.

The 30-bed Emergency Department at The Medical Center at Bowling Green is staffed 24/7 by physicians board certified in emergency medicine and experienced nurses and technicians. Our ER has a dedicated lab, onsite radiology including CT and ultrasound, as well as around-the-clock MRI capability. In addition, we have pediatric doctors on call at all hours of the day or night. We also offer:

  • Access to physicians in more than 50 specialties
  • Rapid Assessment Zone from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. for non-life threatening illnesses and injuries
  • Bedside registration
  • Medical Center EMS with on-site Air Evac Lifeteam air medical transportation.
  • Decontamination room
  • Dedicated behavioral health room and psychiatric admissions
  • Patient tracking system to keep family members aware of the patient’s progress through the ER
  • Pediatric-friendly treatment rooms
  • Children’s special play area

As a Primary Stroke Center certified by The Joint Commission, The Medical Center Emergency Department is committed to providing the best care for stroke victims. Certification by The Joint Commission signifies that we provide the expertise and equipment to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes.

The Medical Center Emergency Department is also the only Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI in our area. During a heart attack, time matters. We are proud that the time it takes from when a patient arrives to when they are taken to the Cath Lab to open a blocked artery, or “door-to-balloon time,” is consistently below the national average.

Our ER is also staffed with specially-trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) who treat each patient they see with compassion and dignity. These nurses ensure proper evidence collection and proper follow up to local law enforcement agencies and advocacy centers.

Med Center Health’s Medical Center EMS is one of only four EMS services in Kentucky accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), the gold standard for EMS. Medical Center EMS has also received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Plus Award for its commitment and success in the treatment of severe heart attack patients.
