The Medical Center Health & Wellness Center to Provide StrongWomen Program

The Medical Center Health & Wellness Center is one of six organizations selected by the Kentucky Department for Public Health Osteoporosis Prevention and Education Program to offer StrongWomen, a program which promotes strength training and nutrition as part of a long-term health plan for women 50 and older. Strength training has been identified to improve bone density, reduce the likelihood of falls, improve arthritis symptoms and increase flexibility.

“Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to weaken and break more easily,” said Linda Rush, RN, Director of The Medical Center Health & Wellness Center. “It is often referred to as a silent disease, as many are unaware that they have the condition until they suffer a painful fracture. StrongWomen is designed to prevent osteoporosis, and it affords women the opportunity to take part in strength training that is safe and effective.”

The Health & Wellness Center’s StrongWomen program will begin on January 5 with an informational meeting. Exercise classes will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. beginning January 12 through April 8. The cost is $40 and the class is limited to 15 participants. For more information or to register, contact The Medical Center Health & Wellness Center at 270-745-0942 or 877-800-3824.

The Medical Center Receives Accreditation from the American College of Radiology

The Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

To receive accreditation, facilities must undergo rigorous peer-review evaluations conducted by board certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field of radiation oncology. The stringent survey assesses qualifications of personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The Medical Center is one of only two hospitals in Kentucky with ACR accreditation, and no cancer treatment centers in Tennessee have attained this status with the ACR.

“This speaks volumes about our commitment to provide the best care for cancer patients,” said Connie Smith, Chief Executive Officer of The Medical Center. “Moreover, it demonstrates the dedication of our cancer treatment center staff and further solidifies The Medical Center as the leader for cancer care in Southcentral Kentucky and northern Tennessee.”

The Medical Center’s cancer program is also accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons and is one of only three hospitals in Kentucky treating cancer patients with the Trilogy™ linear accelerator – a technologically advanced, image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) system.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.
