Meet Warren Wilburn Warren found that he had dangerously high blood pressure at a free BP screening where he worked as a temporary employee. With no health insurance or personal physician, the Free Clinic was the only place he knew to go. The doctors there put him on BP medication and counseled him on how to live a healthier lifestyle. In spite of the medication and lifestyle change, Warren had a heart attack. But being a self-described "idiot" about having to go to the doctor, it was four days before he sought medical help. Again, he went to the Free Clinic. "If the Free Clinic hadn't been available, I wouldn't have gone to the doctor." He was admitted to The Medical Center Emergency Room where tests verified that he'd had a heart attack. With the Free Clinic's help, Warren is now doing just fine. Warren began a full-time job on April 1, 2002 with health insurance coverage. Although he'll stop coming to the Free Clinic as a patient, he'll always be one of the Free Clinic's best supporters and friends. |
